How do we make sense of the bizarre systems we are constantly a part of?
Het Spektakeltje is a textual and visual performance about the small things, the slightly bigger things and the very biggest things. About how everything in our universe moves with and around each other, fits together and how to make sense of it.
Now, somewhere on the street in Amsterdam, now, somewhere on a roof in a field in Tocantins, now, somewhere on a freighter in the North Sea (or now, perhaps, between Denmark and Sweden), now, in the International Space Station, somewhere above Mozambique, someone is wondering what it all matters.
How aware are we of the bizarre systems of which we are constantly a part of, a contributor and at the same time have very little to say about? Is there, right now, someone else on the other side of the world, hoping that they are not the only one paralyzed by this thought?
“Het Spektakeltje is like racing through a galaxy. […] The performance makes you feel humble and at the same time connected to everything you cannot comprehend.” ★★★★ de Volkskrant
Emma van den Elshout (she/he) (1998) and Just van Bommel (he/they/them) (1999) graduated from the Toneelacademie Maastricht, majoring in direction and performance (2022). Together they enjoy making work about things that sometimes seem so small or obvious, and then turn out to be stranger, scarier or more beautiful. Previously they made Het Showtje together, which was selected for Het Debuut 2022 at VIA RUDOLPHI.
