A performance about self-acceptance and the love for Ballroom.
ALTER EGO is a colorful performance by creator, choreographer and founder of the Rotterdam vogue dance community (Ballroom) Kiki House of Angels Guilliano Pinas. With ALTER EGO, Guilliano brings a personal story about the struggles of his youth. How could he bring together the masculine and feminine sides in himself? Through Ballroom, Guilliano got to know these two dualities in himself better. They were allowed to be there, in the same space, and engaged in a conversation with each other: Who are you? I am you. We are one. In ALTER EGO, Guilliano shows this process in movement and language with two performers. A performance about self-acceptance and the love of Ballroom.
In 2015, Guilliano Pinas founded Kiki House of Angels, the first house outside the United States to achieve legendary status. He also is European Father of House of Basquiat. Guilliano became involved with Maas through the performance The Ozard of Wiz, where director René Geerlings’ story touched him: the struggle between the fem- and masc- side, which he recognized from his own childhood.
Fall Failing
“Fall Failing” is an immersive, week-long workshop for emerging performing arts professionals. This year, it brought together the two Junior Companies—Club Guy & Roni’s Poetic Disasters Club and the NITE Riders—along with students from the NAIP program at the Prince Claus Conservatory.
Over five days, they collaborated on performative interventions inspired by the Jonge Harten Festival’s theme, “Playing Around.” Audiences can experience these unique performances on November 15th and 16th, showcased between the scheduled shows of Marleen Hendrickx, MAAS Theater and Sarah Janneh’s BRABO LEONE.
