Masterclass FIELD

Makers Jelle Haen and Jessica Matheson (Orkater/ De Nieuwkomers, started 2023) will tell more about their makership during this Masterclass.

Jelle and Jessica met while studying at the School for New Dance Development. Before that, Jelle took the vocal preliminary course at the conservatory and Jessica completed the dance course Transit Dance in Melbourne. Their shared interest in (self)transformation, both in outer changes and inner experiences, brought them together. As alter-egos Kylie&Ebony, they have been creating performances since 2017. In their first Newcomer production, they explore the difficulty of a symbiosis between two people in a culture that advocates individuality, using transformations in movement, music and characters as a starting point. To do this, they draw on their working experiences outside the theater: Jelle as a professional model, graduate makeup artist and drag and Jessica as a professional dancer and cutter.

Jelle and Jessica are now working on their debut performance Why this strange love which starts in 2024. This performance can also be seen during Young Hearts!

FIELD was created to strengthen the bond with young talent and to give both the artists and the festival the opportunity to support people in the longer term and to make their “dreams” come true. We focus in particular on students who we feel (after conversations and performances) connect themselves as creators with the world beyond. In a conscious, critical and idiosyncratic way.
