A surreal fairy tale about really wanting to see each other.
In a lost paradise, Djek and Djill try to figure out what their love really is without the defining eyes of the outside world. In an ongoing series of metamorphoses, they discover both the enchanting and monstrous sides of each other, but are left wondering if this real love cannot exist only in their imagination.
Djek and Djill retreat to the deep forest, away from the chaos of the big city. Here, in peace, they find out who they are for the other. What do they mean to each other apart from their origins, social status and expectations? Again and again they transform to meet each other as new characters each time. This visual, musically driven performance, inspired by Frankenstein and Disney classics, consists of epically orchestrated soundscapes, original pop melodies, expressive dance and countless costume changes. Why such a strange love is a surreal fairy tale that starts from the belief that if you really want to be able to see each other, you have to look at each other’s dreams.
“Why such a strange love is a strange, fast-paced musical full of original music, in which two lovers against the backdrop of a steel-colored forest cottage constantly take on new roles, inspired by stereotypical images from the media: the innocent Disney princess, the dangerous stranger, the jazzy diva, et cetera.” ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ NRC at Oerol.
