Yesterday was one of those: one of those days you’re not going to forget. One of those days where you know; after this, everything will be different.

The day on which what went well could be celebrated, but tears fell for what did not.

The day on which a large part of the cultural sector had to reapply for their own jobs and on which it became painfully clear that the subsidy schemes are not oversubscribed but that the sector is underfunded.

We have enormous sympathy for the companies and institutions that received a negative recommendation, or a positive recommendation but fall below the so-called cutting line.

Unfortunately, Jonge Harten has also received an advice that puts the survival of the festival in its current form and ambitions at stake. From the Performing Arts Fund we received a positive advice regarding content and the program contribution was granted. But the organizational contribution has not been granted despite the positive advice.

Anyone who knows us, our operation and function can sense that this is an unworkable situation.

We will engage in conversation and see what we can do to continue and develop our plans regarding the stage for makers and our young audiences

Because the “codes” we embrace and would like to live up to, in terms of fair pay and fair practice, actually need money to be implemented.

Investing in a future isn’t always seen today, but cutting back on that same future could cost more than we care about.
